This page explains how we decide what is confirmed and what is a rumour, so you can judge our claims for yourself. Strict labelling is the point of this site, especially for purchase-advice content where being wrong has a cost.
What counts as confirmed
A claim is marked confirmed only if it comes from an official Rockstar Games or Sony source: a trailer, an official post, a press release or a first-party announcement. Currently that includes:
- GTA 6 releasing 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
- No PS4 or Xbox One version
- The setting (Leonida, Vice City) and protagonists (Lucia, Jason)
- GTA 5's real free PS4-to-PS5 next-gen upgrade (a valid cited precedent)
What counts as a rumour
Everything else is a leak or rumour, dated and labelled. Because Sony has not announced the PS6, every PS6 detail, including the release window, specs (Orion, Zen 6, RDNA 5, PSSR 2, DDR7), price, backward compatibility and the rumoured Project Canis handheld, is unverified by definition.
Our rules
- We never present a rumour as fact.
- We never attribute an unconfirmed claim to Rockstar or Sony.
- We date speculative claims so you can see how fresh (or stale) they are.
- When something becomes official, we re-label it and note the date.
Source tiers we use
To keep the labelling consistent, we rank what a claim is built on:
- First-party (treated as confirmed): official Rockstar Games and Sony channels, trailers, press releases and verified posts. Only these can put a claim in the amber column.
- Reputable reporting (still rumour for unannounced products): established outlets and analysts. Useful for context and for tracking what is being said, but on an unannounced console like the PS6, even good reporting describes leaks and estimates, not confirmed facts, so it stays cyan.
- Leaks and forum chatter (rumour, lowest weight): documents like the widely-cited Moore's Law Is Dead report, leaked codenames (Orion, Project Canis) and component rumours. Tracked because readers search for them, always clearly flagged.
How we handle stale information
GTA 6 coverage is full of outdated articles, old dates, "exclusive" framings, superseded rumours. When we spot a stale claim, we correct it against the confirmed facts (19 November 2026, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S) rather than repeating it. If a date or detail on this site ever looks out of step with a newer official announcement, the official announcement wins, and we update.
